Wedding cakes

As a wedding photographer, one of the highlights of every wedding day is capturing the breathtaking beauty of the couple’s wedding cake. From the moment I lay eyes on these sweet masterpieces, my mouth starts watering in anticipation. :) Wedding cakes come in such an incredible array of styles, flavours, and designs – it’s a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds!

On a wedding day, that first glimpse of the cake is always a delightful surprise. Will it be a towering, elegant confection adorned with delicate sugar flowers? A rustic naked cake adorned with fresh berries and greenery? Or perhaps an unconventional dessert like a stunning cheese cake tower? The variety is endless, and each one reflects the unique personalities and tastes of the bride and groom.

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph some truly show-stopping wedding cakes over the years. From classic white cakes with smooth buttercream frosting to bold, vibrant designs incorporating the wedding colors, each one is a work of edible art. And let’s not forget about the flavours – rich chocolate, light vanilla, tart lemon, decadent red velvet…my mouth waters just thinking about them! :)

During the wedding reception, I hover nearby as the bride and groom prepare for their ceremonial cake cutting. Watching them gently feed each other that first bite is such an intimate, romantic moment. But I’ll admit, as a wedding photographer, I’m always fighting the urge to swoop in for a taste myself! The heavenly aromas wafting from that freshly-cut cake are absolutely irresistible.

I’ve attended weddings where the creative dessert options went far beyond just cake. From extravagant doughnut walls to endless candy buffets, couples are truly embracing unique ways to satisfy their wedding guests’ sweet tooth. And then there are those lavish cheese cake displays – an absolute dream for a cheese lover like myself!

No matter what sort of confectionery delight graces the sweetheart table, you can be sure I’ll be sneaking a few extra frames while no one’s looking. A wedding photographer’s job is deliciously perilous when it comes to resisting those sugary temptations! But I’ll gladly resist, because freezing those moments of the newlyweds and their guests indulging in the sweet culmination of their wedding celebration is truly priceless.
